Wellington - Weta
Weta made most of the props (think battle axes, helmets, spears, swords, etc.) for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies. Thousands and thousands of them.
We visited the historic Roxy Theater, near Weta, heard a presentation from one of the producers of the Hobbit and a co-founder of Weta. Super cool to hear his perspective on the industry and how Weta has become a force in the industry ... putting Wellington on the map, so to speak.

Weta productions has been working on the puppet show "Thunderbirds are Go", a sequel to the Thunderbirds of my youth. All the sets are physical, rather than digital. Very cool to see creativity of the artists working on this and how they are using every day and found objects to build these miniature sets.
