Monte Carlo

On a recent business (yes, business) trip to Monaco, I had a chance to take some pictures of this fantastic (and fantastically expensive) place. Monaco is one of several European micro-countries. Set on the Mediterranean boundary between France and Italy, it has had a very interesting history, which I won't bore you with, but you might find interesting. Research is left to the reader. These pictures were taken in April 2002.

Driving east from Monte Carlo, there are 3 roads to choose from: low; middle and high. Choosing the high road offers numerous places to pull over and enjoy the view of the city. This particular day was cool and cloudy with frequent mist and occasional down pours. So the picture isn't as stunning as the view. but it gives a good perspective on Monte Carlo's beautiful setting.
I feel secure in my belief that Monte Carlo has more luxury cars per capita than any place on earth. This Ferrari was parked just in front of the Grand Casino and the picture is taken toward the Northeast just before dusk. There's a fashionable restaurant in the background.
Here across a small park is the front entrance of the Grand Casino. In a trip to Europe 30 years ago, my wife and I entered the Casino and observed the action. I am prepared to believe that the cost of the Ferrari may often be won or lost in an evening by a single patron. Probably lost more often than won since the Casino is still in business.
As with casinos everywhere, the action is at night. Here is how it would look if you approached the Casino after a late supper, say, to wile away a few hours in restless pursuit of entertainment.
