Collioure 2002
Collioure was the solution to a dilemma. Leaving Avignon, we were headed to Barcelona and it looked to be too far for one day's drive (it wasn't but we didn't know). But there wasn't much in between that looked interesting. We were wrong. We picked Collioure almost at random as an intermediate stop ... and it was terrific!
Picture this ... a microscopic horseshoe shaped harbor, sprinkled with 6 lightly populated beaches, supervised by a winking lighthouse, under the protection of an 800 year old chateau, sitting in the shadow of the Pyrenees mountains. Arriving at 10:00 in the morning, we had a wonderful day here and wished for several more.
Click on the panorama below for a bigger better scrollable one (but be patient ... it's 800K but you'll get a sense for the place). From where this picture was taken, the chateau and the Pyrenees mountains are behind us. I am continually amazed what can be done with a digital camera and Photoshop. There are a few flaws in the panorama because I did it "on the cheap" with Photoshop. But I still like it and think you will too.
