Prague
In July 2003, I made a quick business trip to Europe. 2 days in Paris, 2 days in London and a day in Prague. As it worked out, I had the weekend off in Prague to explore the city. Here's the story, 14 of 172 pictures I took and some quick reactions to this fascinating place.
In case your history is a little rusty, here's a quick history of modern Prague in 5 sentences: During WWII, Russia “rescues” Czechoslovakia from the Germans and the Czech’s are grateful. In 1968, Russia reminds the increasingly independent Czechs it’s important to remain grateful by putting Warsaw Pact tanks in the streets. The country rebels and over time wins broad freedom from Soviet oppression. In 1993, Slovakia separates from Czechoslovakia and Prague becomes capital of the new Czech Republic. Since then, Czech Republic grows in prosperity and becomes the “happening place” for business and leisure in Eastern Europe.
About the pictures ... I have found the more pictures I take, the better my odds of getting a good one. But 172 pictures, really! It's over the top even for me. Still, this city is so photogenic it's a treat to have been here with a camera. It was easy to narrow 172 to about 30, but narrowing further to 14 was hard for me. I really like every one of the pictures below, and many more that won't see the light of day. I hope they please you as much as they did me.
These photos were taken in July 2003 mostly with a Nikon E5000.
