St Petersburg - Hermitage
A recent (2012) trip to the Baltics included stops in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Germany, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Estonia, and Stockholm.
Here's the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, a signature visit in our tour. If you've been to, say, the Prado in Madrid, or to the Louvre in Paris, you have the basic idea of this grand museum. The building, and the art are truly fantastic. And the collections are mammoth ... worth dozens of visits ... with thoughtful time in between. We didn't have those options and had to digest what we could in a single visit of half dozen hours.
In Madrid, I prefer the Reina Sofia museum to the Prado. In Paris, I prefer the Musee d'Orsay to the Louvre. And while I'd love to spend more time inthe Hermitage, I would like to find St. Petersburg's Reina sofia or Musee d'Orsay.
