Melbourne

In October 2003, I had a business trip to Australia, to which I tacked on an extra 2 weeks of vacation. Melbourne was the first stop and where I had my business conference. We arrived 14 hours late due to delayed flights. This allowed only a few hours to walk around Melbourne with my camera. Still, these photos will give you a feel for the city.

This photos were taken in October, 2003 mostly using a Nikon E5000.

In the early 90s, we had an exchange student from Australia live with us. He grew up just outside Melbourne and the trip afforded us a chance to get together. We had dinner one night at a restaurant at Southbank. I snapped this and the following picture of the setting moon over Southbank as we departed the restaurant.
From Southbank looking toward the city of Melbourne. I think of Melbourne as the San Francisco of Australia. A financial center. Plenty of good restaurants and entertainment. Clean and safe. A bit off the beaten path. Probably a good place to live.
More or less the same point of view but earlier in the week. While in Melbourne the Rugby World cup was going on. Hotels and restaurants were full and lively. Flight reservations were difficult to arrange. I was given a World Cup shirt at my conference which became a conversation piece as the vacation part of our trip unfolded.
The weather was cool, blustery, and alternated between blue skies with sun ... and dark, storm-tossed skies with wind and rain. At this instant, it was nice.
