Yangtze River
We next took a 2 hour Hainan Airlines flight (Boeing 737) from Xi'an to Wuhan and then a 2 hour bus ride from Wuhan to Yichang. There we boarded a Yangtze River cruise boat operated by Victoria Cruises. The flight on China's fourth largest airline was somewhat late and the bus arrived around 11:00 PM. We walked on board and the boat left. Timing is everything.
After 10 days in China, we were ready for a little down time and the boat was the perfect venue. Each day began with an excursion of some kind. Then we would return to the boat and motor on to the next stop. There were about 6-8 tour groups on board plus a number of independent travelers. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style and dinner was either a buffet or sit down meal. While underway, there were opportunities to get caught up on a book or email, talks on various subjects, and "lessons" on things like acupuncture or Mahjong. There was a big observation deck on the top of the ship. Each evening after dinner there was a cabaret show.
We were on the boat 4 days (3 would have been plenty) and by the time we arrived at Chongqing (33 Million people) we were raring to go again.
These photos were taken in October 2005 mostly with a Nikon D70.
