Shanghai
We began our journey in China with the city of Shanghai. It is a modern Chinese city of 16-17 Million people; a city where mostly everything works. There are good hotels and restaurants; good roads; a good metro; many modern buildings and amenities; and reasonable English fluency when we needed it. In that sense it was an easy city for the start of our trip. We had a reduced level of sightseeing which helped us work through our jet lag and begin our introduction to Mandarin Chinese. We stayed at the Park Hotel which is at the exact center of Shanghai. There's a plaque in the lobby that mark's the spot.
