Chengdu
We departed Chongqing by bus on what was to be the second hardest leg of our trip. 5 hours over difficult roads eventually lead us to Chengdu where we checked into the Jin Jiang Hotel. We had an evening here in Chengdu before flying to Tibet. And upon our return from Tibet we had another evening and half the next day. I recall 3 things most vividly about Chengdu: A "face changing" show; The Panda Sanctuary; and Food Poisoning. More on face changing and pandas in the photos below.
I have tried to reconstruct where I might have encountered food poisoning. We had just returned from Lhasa and had a very nice dinner at the hotel. Next morning we visited the Panda Sanctuary and had lunch nearby. I'm pretty sure it was either dinner or lunch but can't pin down which. Some of our traveling companions also became ill at more or less the same time with more or less the same symptoms. After lunch we boarded the bus for the airport and our flight to Hong Kong. It was somewhat of a long bus ride to the airport but especially long for me because I began a period of 12 hours of projectile vomiting and volcanic diarrhea. I guess it was a long ride for everyone on the bus. This was the "low point" of the trip for me.
These photos were taken in October 2005 mostly with a Nikon D70.
