Paradise Bay
All our stops and landings to date have been islands. For the first time we set foot on the Antarctic continent at Paradise Bay. This was one of the calmest days we saw and we had a chance to enjoy outings in Kayaks as well as Zodiacs.
In many ways the kayaking was the most interesting. It is possible to get within a few feet of otherwise inaccessible shore to see nesting birds, resting seals and such. Very very neat. And we had a chance to paddle out into the deeper water of the center of the bay always mindful that a calving glacier could swamp our kayak. Fortunately, when the calve they make a booming thunderous noise giving us plenty of warning and time to prepare for the mini-tsunami the falling glacier creates.
