Below the Antarctic Circle
During the night we have been motoring south in an attempt to reach our goal ... the Antarctic Circle.
The earth's axis of rotation is tilted out of the plane of its orbit by 23 1/2 degrees. On the longest day of the year, it stays light the entire day beyond (90 - 23 1/2) 66o 30' ... South in our case ... the Antarctic Circle. It's an arbitrary line created by the physics of our orbit. There is no yellow designator like the line of scrimmage on an NFL football broadcast. But it's good to have goals and this is ours.
These photos were taken ni February 2006 mostly with a Nikon D200.
