Meknes
Driving east from Rabat, our first stop was Meknès. The city originated as a hill-top kasbah and one of the principle bases of the Khajarite Berbers the the 700s AD. Since then, it has had a troubled history but arrives in our century as the center of a rich agricultural region known for growing olives, grain, vegetables and grapes.
