60 or so km east of Moulay Idress is Fès, the most complete Islamic Medieval city in the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its history has, for a thousand years, been a history of Morocco's political, commercial, and intellectual life. To the visitor, Fès seems satisfyingly foreign and mysterious. Since leaving Rabat, we have traveled even further backward in time. Here is the Medina of all medinas, a Royal Palace to rival any royal palace and, in short, the true beginning of our "exotic" adventure.
