Oso Landslide Memorial
A major landslide occurred 4 miles east of Oso, Washington, on March 22, 2014. A portion of an unstable hill collapsed, sending mud and debris to the south across the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River, engulfing a rural neighborhood, and covering an area of approximately 1 square mile. Forty-three people were killed and 49 homes and other structures destroyed. We stopped by to see how the memorial was coming along.

This small roadside park was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. My grandfather was a member of the CCC in Iowa and in the 30's helped to build the dam that formed Beads Lake in Iowa where he and my grandmother had a cabin.

Who knew there would be so many things to celebrate on June 14th including our Dear Leader's birthday. And we missed it by a week.
Silver Gate Montana
As my daughter points out, "It's not always rainbows and ice cream on a motorcycle tour." As we returned to Silver Gate from riding the Beartooth Pass, we were treated to a sever thunder storm: cloud-to-cloud lightning, hail the size of my thumbnail, and hard hard rain.

Silver Gate Montana - The Big Rock!
I grew up about 80 miles from Silver Gate and my family often rented a cabin. In front of the cabin was this giant rock. When you're 10 it is absolutely huge fun to climb it. Over the years as we grew, the rock seemed to shrink. Now at almost 70 years, it seems to be growing again.

Count the cars on the roadway. The virus depressed traffic something wonderful. Heaven for a motorcyclist!
