Free - Fight Hunger: The UN has done something quite innovative to address world hunger using the internet. All you do is click a button and somewhere in the world some hungry person gets a meal to eat, at no cost to you. The food is paid for by corporate sponsors (who gain advertising in the process because you see their logo). But you're only allowed one click per day. Since June 1999, over 12 million people have donated at this site. So spread the word to others. Visit the site and pass the word. |

Words: My daughter, an English major, believes this is the best site on the entire internet. I confess, I have spent an embarrassing amount of time here. For me, its best feature is the Visual Thesaurus, but you have to see it to believe it. There are foreign language dictionaries including, for example, Afrikaans, Coptic, Sign, Cherokee, Hebrew, Eskimo, Swedish, Arabic, and Etruscan. There are specialized dictionaries like: Aviation, Internet, Psychology, Fishing, Humor, and Gastronomy. There's a wonderful acronym finder (try looking up SNAFU). There's a cool multi-lingual dictionary where you can find words by content (120 that contain "zz" for example). And finally, there's a "web of linguistic fun." |
